Popcorn is a truly an American product that was developed to its fullest potential by a legend Orville Redenbacher. Valparaiso, Indiana, the hometown of Orville, started celebrating this American tradition 35 years ago with a Popcorn Festival that has gotten bigger and better every year. With popcorn as its main focus, this week-long festival pulls talent from across the country to commemorate this local hero and small town America. Nightly contests and events keep locals and travelers flocking to the Central Park Amphitheater and Popcorn Tents set up throughout downtown. The town transforms itself into a celebration of popcorn that is capped off on the Saturday after Labor Day. The morning starts off with a Popcorn Panic Race for adults and a Puff Race for kids, the Orville Redenbacher Parade, and a charity supporting Hot Air Balloon send-off. It's an event that is fun for people in all walks of life and interests with live music, food, and booths spread throughout. The festival ends at night with families picnicking at Central Park and enjoying live music and eating popcorn.
